Alexander John Lodge was
born on 12 March 1863 at Far Street, Horncastle, Lincolnshire and was baptised at St.John's church on 2 March. He was the ninth of the fifteen children of Samuel and Mary Lodge.

The census of 1871 shows the family living at Scrivilsby Rectory in Lincolnshire where his father was Rector of St.Benedict's church. However, when census of 1881 was taken, Alexander and his sisters Nora and Clara were shown as at the house in Wolstanton of their uncle Oliver Lodge. At that time Alexander was working as a Writing Clerk, possibly for his uncle who was a merchant. The census of 1891 records Alexander still as a Writing Clerk and visiting the family of solicitor William H Bishop in Stone, Staffordshire.

On 23 January 1896 Alexander married Edith Emily Folker at Shelton parish church near Stoke on Trent. The census of 1901 shows Alexander with a general domestic servant living at 16 Hartshill in Stoke on Trent whilst Edith is with her family at 1 Clarke Street, Hanley. By that time Alexander is a Sub-Branch Manager for an Insurance Company.

According to the census of 1911, Alexander is still living alone with one general domestic servant but has moved to a seven roomed house called Gordon House in Trentham, Stoke on Trent. His occupation is described as "Resident Secretary of an insurance Company". Edith's location at that time is not known.

In 1917 Alexander was an Executor in will of his wife's brother Percy Newton Folker. In the Will has described as an Insurance Company Secretary.

Edith passed away in 1918. Alexander died at 3 Ashley Court in Hampstead on 23 April 1950 at the age of 87. His niece Marion Bustard was in attendance. His occupation was recorded on the death certificate as Insurance Official (retired).
